Home Up

Happy Christmas 2015...!

Now listen.  There are about three people in the entire world who do not know that I have retired.  And we have to tell them.  You, and me.  These three people know me - I just can't remember which of you the three are.

What happened was - in July I walked out the door with a cheque in my hand.  The Management Team were in tears - obviously.   But these things happen.  I left behind me many good friends, and I really ought to apologise to them because we didn't win the lottery.  Did we?  Maybe if I had picked different numbers.....anyway.  I retired.  At a young age.

You may already know this but - it is very, very hard, being retired.  Since July I have not had a single day off.  I have been retired morning, noon and night.  Okay - you may not feel this is a case that merits sympathy but stay with me...

Often I have to be out early to get myself to a Golf Course - before nine when it is hardly light.  Some days I don't even get to the Club Bar until nearly three o'clock.   In the evenings I find myself having to drink beer when decent people should be at home with their doors locked and their curtains pulled.  It is indeed truly awful.

I have found my weight slipping down; I walk with my back straight rather than stooped, and my golf handicap has fallen by two strokes.  I have not set my alarm clock since the Summer.  Monday is now one of my favourite days.  Sorry.

I shall struggle on!  I could go back to work.  I have had a very good offer.  Something to do with tax?  For some Indian Company.   But you know what us older folk are like.  We keep wandering off, and falling asleep, and looking for the loo....and heading for the Golf course, and the Pub...

Below you will find a photo taken on my final day in the Office.  Notice the balloon.

Were you one of the three?  If you see one of them, tell them.  You will, won't you?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!  Onwards to 2016!
