Here you will find two lists of Pubs in Wiltshire in the nineteenth century - and a survey of Pubs in Salisbury from 1980.
"Julies Pubcrawl" was added for Christmas 2007. Have a look at Julie Atkinsons survey of the Pubs in Salisbury in 1980. Marvel at the ridiculous prices. Be amazed by the choice of beers. Who knows - you might have been there.
A word about the lists of Wiltshire Pubs from the nineteenth century.
This is not my work either. They were set up by Dave Backhouse and until it was deleted, after his death, they were on his site, jukejoint.co.uk. Dave's death was announced on his web site in early 2001. I had a link to the lists and when I found the link broken I raided the cache copies on Google and pinched them. I never met Dave but every now and again I get an email from someone who did. Thank you for grabbing them from wherever you grabbed them from Dave!
The lists are taken from Kellys Directory. Kellys seems to have been in existence for years and years and years. It is still published now as an industrial directory. There are two lists - 1848 and 1880.
My interest is in the Salisbury Pubs - if you have been drinking in them over the last few decades or more then there will be many that you will recognise. These pubs have been in business for more than 150 years - and only in the last 10 years have they started to disappear.
